Dr. Hopkins is Dean of Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary and regularly teaches in the area of biblical languages and literature. He teaches Old and New Testament Studies, Biblical Hebrew and Greek, and Early Judaism. His scholarly research and publications are in the area of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Qumran Literature, Biblical Hermeneutics and African American Christian Thought. He is the only known person of African Descent to hold a doctorate in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr. Hopkins also is a Pedagogy Fellow at Yale University's Center for Faith and Culture, where he is part of the Christ and Being Human Project. Having worked in ministry in the Church of God in Christ, he currently is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Dr. Hembree is an Assistant Professor at Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary and teaches in the area of Pastoral Theology, Care and Counseling. His scholarly research and interest examine the anthropological, psychological and theological dimensions found in traditional African religious thought and culture, and the appropriateness of these resources for the field of pastoral care and counseling with the African American community. Specifically, Dr. Hembree has developed a pastoral counseling method and practice for African American men, drawing upon the spiritual resources and teachings of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa. Dr. Hembree is the co-author of You are the Jewel in the Stone: A Narrative Resource for the Theological Exploration of Vocation (2004). Dr. Hembree is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Society for the Study of Black Religion, the American Psychological Association, and has served as Co-Chair of the Society for Pastoral Theology.  Dr. Hembree currently serves as pastor of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Sumter, SC.

Dr. Alonzo Johnson is an Associate Professor of Theology at Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary.  His teaching and research is in the area of systematic theology, pastoral theology and ethics.  He teaches Intro to Christian Theology, Systematic Theology I, Systematic Theology II, Christian Ethics and other related subjects.  His writing and scholarly interests include: Holiness-Pentecostalism, African American theology and folk traditions, the life and theology of Howard Thurman, American Christianity, African  and Afro-Caribbean Christian traditions.   He is the author of Good News for the Disinherited and co-editor of Aint Gonna Lay My Ligion Down. Dr. Johnson serves in leadership in the Church of God in Christ, he is the Pastor of Universal Outreach Church, Irmo, SC, and assistant to the bishop of SC, and he is the Chief Editor and Senior Contributing Author for the Standardized Ordination Curriculum  of the Church of God in Christ (November 2019).

Dr. Amenti Sujai is Associate Professor and Chair of the Religion Department at Allen University in Columbia, SC.  She also teaches Church History at the Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary. Prior to her teaching position at Allen, she was Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion and Associate Director of the Center for Vocational Reflection at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC., and has served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Martin University in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Her research areas are in the following three areas: History of the Christian Church, Psychology of Religion, and Women in Religion.  Dr. Sujai is the author of Jewel in the Stone (2001), Dancin’ with the Beloved (2004) and co-author of You are the Jewel in the Stone: A Narrative Resource for the Theological Exploration of Vocation. (2004). Dr. Sujai is a member of the Society for the Study of Black Religion, and the American Psychological Association.  She is a spiritual guidance consultant, speaker, and writer. She conducts retreats on women’s religious and spiritual experiences.

Dr. Sumpter is an adjunct professor of Christian Education and is a certified Christian educator.  She has served as an instructor at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), as a professor at the University of South Carolina, and as an adjunct professor at Erskine Theological Seminary. Her theological instruction has been primarily in the areas of Christian Education and Church Growth and Evangelism. She has over 25 years of practical work experience as a Christian educator where she writes curricula and serves as a presenter and consultant to seminaries, congregations, and administrative ministerial bodies across denominational lines.
 Dr. Sumpter currently serves as the Director of Christian Education for the Columbia Annual Conference of the AME church. She is an Itinerant Elder and a pastor in the AME church.​

Dr. Young currently serves as a Presiding Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina. Prior to his appointment as Presiding Elder, he pastored AME congregations in Charleston and Columbia. He also served for fifteen years as a professor at Columbia International University where he taught Urban Church Planting, Introduction to the Church and Biblical Preaching.

MR. KENNETH JOHNSON
​Fellow of Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary
Kenneth D. Johnson (Ken) is a Fellow of the Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary. He graduated from public schools and attended Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Government, with major coursework in philosophy, political philosophy, international relations, urban politics, and religion. Ken is a published author of numerous open letters and statements, and essays about Restorative Justice, the Black Church, youth development and the role of religion and contemporary culture. He is on the editorial board of the political theory, philosophy, and cultural journal, Telos, based in New York City, and was the guest editor for the spring 2018 issue of Telos, number 182, titled, “Martin Luther King, Jr., Fifty Years On.”
